Our computer technology curriculum begins in our PreK and Kindergarten classrooms with students working 1:1 with IPads.
In first and second grades, students are introduced to Google Suite and Classroom, building an understanding of the tools and terminology of the applications. Students also learn about computer safety and staying safe online. Additionally, students visit the lab for mouse and keyboarding skill development and have 1:1 Chromebooks used in the classroom setting.
Every student in grades 3 through 8 are assigned chromebooks that travel with them from class to class. Students in these grades use Google Classroom and G-Suite for Education. This involves sharing files with Google Apps, both with teachers and while collaborating with other students in school or at home. Students are also introduced to a variety of technology applications for understanding computer programming and coding, robotics, 3-D design, editing both image and video files, and designing websites. To keep with the current trends, we have a paperless lab!
Classrooms for grades 1-8 are equipped with SmartBoards to encourage an interactive learning environment.
Notre Dame de Lourdes, like other Catholic schools embrace the idea of STREAM (science, technology, religion, engineering, arts and math) education as a way to enhance learning, incorporate the importance of each subject, and further develop skills to succeed in the 21st century.
In our designated STREAM space, students are able to take a deeper dive into subjects and topics covered in their classroom and see how it can be expanded across the curriculum.
The STREAM program:
• incorporates multi-subject lessons that compliment what students are learning in the classroom
• provides opportunities to better understand concepts with hands-on, interactive
experiences
• increases the number of projects that will be graded across multiple courses, i.e.,
Science, Technology, Religion, ELA, Art, and Math
• incorporates technology instruction as an essential part of preparation before beginning the
STREAM project
• is intended to inspire the imagination and encourage fun collaboration.
