Catholic Schools Week was a very special experience for our school. It was a fun and engaging moment to celebrate the many gifts we have received over the years.
Monica Boyle of the Foundation for Catholic Education visited Notre Dame de Lourdes School to present Diana Pileggi and Fr. Joe McCaffery with $32,000! This was thanks to the 32 families who contributed to the 2022 Tuition Cares program. Families with students in Kindergarten through Grade 8 will receive $262 in tuition assistance.
Catholic Schools Week is a time to celebrate the blessings of Catholic education. Along with the academic excellence that Philly Catholic schools provide, the affordability of the private education provided in the archdiocese of Philadelphia is another reason for prospective parents to take a look at how our school could be a good fit.
With 2023 fast approaching, it would be worthwhile to look at a few things Catholic high schools and elementary schools in Philadelphia have to be grateful for and why there’s every reason to be hopeful in pursuing a Catholic education for your child.
Congratulations to Yemi Kolawole and Maria Tomassetti as they were recognized as Neumann Scholars by the Connelly Foundation. Both will be receiving 4-year scholarships to the Archdiocesan high school of their choice! On the qualifying exam, Yemi scored highest in Delaware County and tied for the highest score overall and Maria had a perfect score in Math. Way to go, girls!
Dear Principal Pileggi: On behalf of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Saviour Council #13710, I wish to thank you and your wonderful students for the abundant amount of food you collected for our Thanksgiving food drive. Our council is blessed to have your school collect food for us over the many past years. I am happy to report our council approved making a donation to Notre Dame DeLourdes school in the amount of $250.00 as a general donation to the school. You should be receiving the check shortly. Again, thank you, your students and staff for making our Thanksgiving food drive so successful. It appears we have collected enough food to have a Christmas food drive as well. May you, your staff and all the students have a wonderful Thanksgiving and Blessed Christmas. Regards, Robert Curl, PGK and Thanksgiving food drive member.
Established in the 1960s, the Emmy-winning and Grammy-nominated Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale has toured the world, recorded with internationally renowned orchestras and soloists such as Luciano Pavarotti, appeared on national and international television, and received praise from critics and audiences worldwide. Our very own Lucas Drass is a member of this prestigious group and practicing for the holiday season's events.
Americans aren’t used to thinking of Halloween as a religious holiday. With all the horror movies, the skulls and gory figurines on peoples’ lawns and the – well, spookiness – the Catholic roots of Halloween now generally lie six feet under people’s minds. This is precisely why it’s time to dig up these roots.
Schools across the nation reported that students fell behind due to distance learning during the COVID pandemic. Not so with Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Since October is the month of the rosary, it may be helpful to reflect on what this powerful prayer means for us and our families. How can the rosary help us grow in our relationship with our Blessed Mother? How can devotion to Mary help form students in and out of the classroom? Three themes come to mind: meditation, service and love.
With the feast of the archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, it can be helpful to reflect on what they mean for us as Catholics today and what they can mean for a Catholic education.
If education begins at home, this means that parents are the first, primary and fundamental educators of their children. If this is the case, we should take Mary and Joseph as our models of mother, father and teacher.
One big advantage of Catholic education, in addition to academic excellence and being committed to opening children's mind to truth, is that Catholic schools but the lives and examples of the Saints front and center in the classroom.
As families are getting back into the school routine, many are taking a step back and reflecting on their goals for education and what hopes and challenges are facing them on their way.
For the second year in a row, Notre Dame de Lourdes was awarded School for Distinguished Instruction 2022. Thanks to our hardworking faculty and student body! Share our good news.
Congratulations to our recent graduate, Madeline Crussard, for her winning essay in the statewide AMVETS competition. Next, she moves on to the National competition. Good luck Madeline! We are NDDL proud.
There are certain skills that prepare our students well for high school and beyond. Here are a few us Catholic educators are proud to nurture and develop in our students.
