Library Book Fines
Starting in Grade 2 and continuing through Grade 8, books that are returned late to the school library will incur a fine of $.05 per book per day. A fine accumulates only when a child forgets his/her book, not when they are absent. I do ask that when a child returns to school from being absent, that he/she returns their book to the library.
A child is only charged for three days each week due to my schedule and weekends are free. When a child accrues a fine of $1.00, he/she cannot take out any more books until the fine is paid. If a fine carries over to the next year, the child will not be able to take out a book until it is paid.
We are trying to teach the children responsibility for their library books and feel that second graders are ready to start remembering library day (which is Wednesday) on their own. We also hope that this will take the pressure off of parents’ busy schedules. Trying to remember your children’s library day can really get confusing especially if you have more than one child in the school. I do hope you understand that this will benefit your children in the future and this is the reason for the fine.
All fines collected will be invested in new library materials. As always, I thank you for supporting the library program and for your cooperation.
