Students in grades 1 through 8 benefit from weekly instruction through our Art program, where they learn about visual artists from global and American history and work on short term and long term projects using various media. Students develop age-appropriate skills and learn about the elements and principles of visual art as they create solo and group art pieces. A balance of prescriptive instruction with opportunities for creative agency allows students to explore and expand their artistic sensibilities and ideas. Cross-curricular art projects connect art with content students are learning in other areas.
Students also participate in multiple collaborative school-wide art projects during the year, and are encouraged to participate in after-school Art Clubs and in-school opportunities to join in community art projects such as seasonal decorating of the school building.
